School Programme
The opera school for children at the Vienna State Opera offers voice training classes for children who attend along side their regular school classes (Volks-, Secondary school, junior grades junior high school (AHS). |

The school provides further opportunities for the artistic education of children.
Aims
The children are instructed in music theatre skills as well as sensitized for a possible career as a singer.
The children are trained for solo and chorus scenes and perform in stage productions of the Vienna State Opera.
Structure of the lessons
Admission is given to 8 and 9 year-old girls and boys who are trained in the fields of voice, choir singing, solo singing, speech education, listening education and stagecraft, in private or group lessons.
The training consists of a 2 year basic course which is offered every other year. For further training 2 to 3 years are required.
At the latest after the basic course children can appear on stage in productions of the Vienna State Opera.
Afternoon lessons of 2 hours take place 3 times per week in the Ballet and Opera School of the Vienna State Opera, Goethegasse 1, 1010 Vienna (every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm to 5pm or from 4pm to 6pm).
The Opera School for children is pedagogically supported by the Vienna city school board.
Auditions
By written invitation.
Admission
Prior to admission potential students attend sessions each Monday from February to June for 1 hour per week. First year students attend from September to June for 6 hours per week.
Expenses
For the Opera School a contribution towards expenses in the amount of € 14.53 per instruction month is payable. For children who are admitted after passing the audition for the Opera School there is a one-time registration fee of € 21.80.
