The Committee of Young Ladies and Gentlemen
Opening Committee

One of the highlights of every Opera Ball is the procession of the Commit-tee of Young Ladies and Gentlemen and the opening dances. The condi-tions for being a member of this committee and details of proceedings leading up to the grand opening ceremony are described below.

Applications

First and foremost, it is essential to be able to dance the left-hand waltz well. Many dancing schools offer waltz refresher courses before the date of the audition. Candidates must be between 17 and 24 years of age. Applications with or without a partner should be made to the Opera Ball Office.
For ladies and gentlemen from from the provinces: Deadlines for applications: 1 September 2008, at the Opera Ball Office, from 10 a.m. till 12 noon and 2 to 5 p.m.
For ladies and gentlemen from from abroad: Please send your application together a photograph and your CV to the Opera Ball Office no later than 1 September 2008. We ask couples from abroad to send us a recent video/DVD in which knowledge of the Left-turning waltz is clearly apparent.

You will be informed in writing of the date of your waltz audition. Gentle-men are requested to wear suits for the dance auditions, which are always held in Vienna, either in one of the rooms of the Vienna State Opera or at a dancing school. Acceptances are is also given in writing.

Cost:

Committee tickets cost 100 euros each.

Admission: 6.30 p.m.
Start: about 7 p.m.

There are no particular dress requirements for the dress rehearsal.
